The Rosses

County Donegal, Ireland
© Barry Thomas Hendrickson

The dramatic coastline of northwestern County Donegal is emphasized by tidal cycles. This image is from an area called “The Rosses”, which has remote coastline harbors and vast stretches of sand left by low tides. Nearby Cruit Island is made up of rugged rocks and sea grasses among wide open vistas. This wonderfully remote area is one of the few remaining Irish-speaking (Gaeltacht) areas.
